Montessori is a philosophy and method of education created by Dr. Maria Montessori that emphasizes the potential of the young child and which develops this potential by using trained teachers and specialized Montessori materials. The materials help children to understand what they learn by associating an abstract concept with a concrete sensorial experience. Within the classroom, multiple ages of students are combined, creating an environment where students serve as leaders for one-another and children learn at their own pace. The Montessori teaching methodology is uniquely based upon observation, tactile learning materials, peer learning, and intrinsic motivation. These elements all come together to create a very distinctive and extraordinary approach to education.

How it Started
North Star Montessori is the coming together of two experienced AMS Certified Montessori teachers with a love of children. Jane and Maureen taught together many years ago and found that their teaching styles and beliefs were very strongly aligned. Destiny brought their paths together again and their vision of creating a family oriented Montessori school that was small and intimate, while adhering to the Montessori philosophy, came true with the creation of North Star Montessori. Their mission is to create a peaceful and joyful learning atmosphere where they can foster the growth and development of the whole child.
